Jimdo Alternatives for People Who Outgrew Dolphin

9/14/2026 • Nikita Jerschow

Jimdo is one of the few builders that shipped an AI website builder years before everyone else called it AI. Dolphin asks you some questions and assembles a site. For a lot of small businesses in Europe that was, and still is, a good deal.

The complaint that sends people looking for alternatives is consistent. Dolphin is great at the first ten minutes and restrictive after that. It generated something reasonable and now you want the hero section to be different, and you find out how narrow the editing model is.

Jimdo also runs two separate editors. Dolphin is the AI one. Creator is the older manual editor, still offered, with its own pricing page. You pick one at signup and they're effectively different products, which is a confusing place to start.

What it costs

Last we looked, Jimdo's website plans ran from a free tier with a jimdo subdomain and a small page cap, up through roughly $11 to $45 a month on annual billing, with monthly billing costing more. Those numbers move and vary by country, so check Jimdo's current pricing page rather than trusting this paragraph. Ours is at /plans.

Where people go

Squarespace or Wix. Both are a real step up in design range and both cost more. Also both are closed. Wix states plainly that sites can't be exported to another host, and Squarespace's export leaves your styles and custom CSS behind.

WordPress. Maximum flexibility and portability, and a maintenance job you now own.

Webflow. Serious design control, serious learning curve.

Figment. Design in Figma, publish the file as a live site. That's below.

Whichever you choose, plan on rebuilding the design. Jimdo doesn't hand you a portable site, so save your copy and images by hand before you cancel anything.

What Figment gives you that Jimdo doesn't

You own the design file. It's a Figma document in your account, not a Dolphin site living inside Jimdo's system. Take it anywhere, open it in a decade, hand it to a designer.

No editing ceiling. This is the whole reason people leave Dolphin. On a canvas, moving the hero section is just moving a box. There's no "this layout doesn't support that."

Publishing is fast in a way that survives the first day. Edit the design, publish, live in under a minute, every time. Not just during setup.

And the open canvas is why our AI approach is different in kind, not just in quality. Dolphin generates inside a fixed layout system, which is why the output is hard to change afterward. An open design file doesn't have that wall. Our AI website builder is in early access and not generally available yet. It's being built on the same Figma foundation, so the thing AI produces is a design you can then edit like any other design.

We've been live since 2021 with just over 20,000 published sites.

Stay on Jimdo if

You're in Germany, Austria or Switzerland and you rely on Jimdo's Legal Text Generator. It builds your Impressum and privacy policy and keeps them updated, it's available across a set of European countries, and if compliance is the thing keeping you up at night, that feature is worth more than design freedom. Figment doesn't do this and I'm not going to pretend a template can replace it.

Your site is small and finished. Five pages that say who you are and how to reach you. Dolphin handles that and moving buys you nothing.

You want German-language support from a German company. Reasonable, and Jimdo delivers it.

You don't want to open a design tool. Figma is free and it's not hard, but it is a tool you'd be learning.

Making the move

Open each page, paste the text into a doc, save your images. Screenshot everything as a layout reference. Rebuild in Figma, either tracing your old site or starting from a free community template, with a desktop frame and a mobile frame per page. Publish with the Figment plugin, click through the preview URL, then change one DNS record at your registrar. The same step order is written out in our Squarespace migration guide.
