Wix Forms: What You Can Build, and Where Submissions Go

Wix Forms is Wix's built-in form builder: it lets you create contact forms, registration forms, job applications and more, store every submission automatically in a dashboard, filter out spam, and export the results as a CSV — all without adding a separate app. The free tier works but caps you at four forms with basic fields; a file upload field, a signature field, and higher submission limits all require an upgrade. Here's what it can build and where each limit sits, sourced from Wix's own support documentation.

What is Wix Forms?

Wix's own description: it lets you "create fully customizable forms and collect all the info you need to run and grow your business" (Wix). It's built into every Wix site rather than being a marketplace app you install separately, and it covers a wide range of use cases out of the box — "contact forms, registration forms, job applications, price quotes, and more" — either from premade templates or built field-by-field from scratch.

What can I actually build with it?

Wix Forms supports "many different types of form fields to choose from when building a form," including standard contact fields, multiple-choice options, and — notably — a signature field for anything that needs a documented agreement, like a waiver or an intake form. You can also add conditional logic (showing or hiding fields based on a previous answer) and split a long form into multiple steps, which is the difference between a short contact box and something closer to an application or intake process.

A file upload field is also available, but it's explicitly a paid feature: "the upload file field is a premium feature for site forms," alongside the signature field and a file-download field, and Wix states these are "only available with select upgrades" (Wix). Where it's enabled, it accepts a wide range of file categories — video, image, audio, document and archive files — each with its own size ceiling (documents up to 1000MB, video up to 4GB, images typically 25MB), and you can restrict a given field to only the file types you actually want submitted. Every uploaded file (and signature) is saved into your site's Media Manager, so it's accessible outside the submissions table too, not just attached to one entry.

To add a form on the editor side: go to your editor, click Add Elements, click Contact & Forms, then either Create New Form or choose a premade template and drag it onto the page.

Where do submissions go, and can I export them?

Every submission is captured automatically: "when visitors submit one of your forms, their entries are automatically stored in a submissions table" (Wix). Rather than checking each form individually, you view everything from one place — Forms & Submissions in your site's dashboard — which lists submitter details (name, email, message) and a timestamp for every entry across every form on the site.

Exporting is built in, not a third-party add-on: select the submissions you want, click Export, choose what data to include, and download a CSV. One detail worth knowing if you're reconciling timestamps: "all dates and times are exported in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) time zone," regardless of the timezone your site or account is set to. You can also download a single submission as a PDF from the submission's own menu, though that route only works one submission at a time.

For notifications, new Wix Forms work through Wix's automation system rather than a manual per-form setting: "when someone submits a form, an email automatically gets sent to the site owner notifying them about the submission," built on Wix Automations. You can add or change recipients under Forms & Submissions → Form notifications, including sending to specific Collaborator Roles rather than just the site owner's own inbox — useful if a form should route to a specific team member rather than everyone with dashboard access.

What spam protection does Wix Forms include?

Spam filtering is built in and layered, not a bolt-on CAPTCHA field you have to add yourself. Wix runs new form submissions through up to three tiers, each one only kicking in if the previous tier didn't already flag the submission as spam:

1. Only reCAPTCHA — the lowest tier. It "uses invisible reCAPTCHA to analyze site visitor behavior and determine if they are human or a bot," and only shows a visible challenge if that behavior looks suspicious.
2. Basic and reCAPTCHA — after passing invisible reCAPTCHA, the submission goes through a basic spam filter that looks at things like network and contact details. New Wix Forms "come with built-in spam filters," and you choose the level under the form's Spam filter settings (Wix).
3. Advanced and reCAPTCHA — adds "an advanced filter using additional technologies to mark spam" on top of the first two layers.

Because reCAPTCHA is already built into new Wix Forms, there's no separate reCAPTCHA field to drag onto the form the way older Wix forms required — the protection runs invisibly in the background by default.

What are the limits on a free site?

Without upgrading, Wix caps you at four forms, and each one is limited to 10 fields, 3 steps, 3 conditional rules, and 2 email notification recipients. Upgrading raises every one of those ceilings substantially — up to 75 forms and 100 fields per form on higher tiers — and is also the only way to unlock the premium fields (file upload, signature, file download, and appointment fields) covered above. Separately, "taking payments through Wix Forms is only possible with plans that allow you to accept payments," so a form meant to collect money at submission time needs the same plan tier Wix Bookings needs for the same reason.

Wix's premium plans go by different names depending on which editor you're on — Light, Core, Business, Business Elite for the standard Premium plans, or Basic, Standard, Plus, Elite for Wix Studio sites — and which specific tier unlocks which form limit isn't printed anywhere Wix documents in a single table. Check the Wix Forms upgrade page against your own site's current plan before assuming a given field or limit is included.

What happens to my form submissions if I switch website builders?

A Wix Forms export gives you the data — the list of who submitted what — not the working form itself, its spam filtering, or its notification routing. That distinction matters most for any form that collects payment: Wix's own documentation confirms that "when using the new Wix Forms to collect payments, order details such as the Order ID, payment information, and total amount are part of the order data," but that information is not included when you export submissions as a PDF or CSV. If any of your forms take payment, record those order details manually before you migrate, since the export leaves them out entirely.

The practical answer

Wix Forms can build a real contact form, a multi-step application, or an intake form with a signature field, and it stores and exports every submission without a separate app. The free tier is genuinely usable for a simple contact form, but check three things before you build something more ambitious on it: whether you need a file upload or signature field (premium only), whether the form needs to collect payment (requires an upgraded plan, the same gate Wix uses for accepting scheduling payments), and whether your submission volume will outgrow the free tier's per-form limits.
