Wix vs GoDaddy Website Builder: Which Should You Use?
Choose Wix if you want a mature drag-and-drop editor, a large app marketplace, and don't mind that your design never leaves Wix's servers. Choose GoDaddy's Airo AI Builder if you'd rather describe your site in a chat prompt than assemble it by hand, and want the option to download your code later. "GoDaddy" here means GoDaddy's own website-building product — currently called Airo AI Builder — not GoDaddy the domain registrar. The two products work differently enough that "which is better" depends on how you want to build and what you plan to do with the result later, not just price.
What am I actually comparing?
Wix is a hosted, drag-and-drop website editor: you place elements on a canvas, connect a CMS collection or store if you need one, and Wix hosts the result on its own infrastructure indefinitely. GoDaddy's builder has changed shape recently. GoDaddy's help center now describes Airo AI Builder as a chat-based tool: "Chat with Airo to build an app or site. Upload files, edit code, update databases, run security analysis, or even store API keys to create the exact look and features you need" (GoDaddy Help, "What is Airo?", checked September 2026). That same help page lists Airo AI Builder as distinct from the original "Airo" generator you get when registering a new domain, and from "Airo for WordPress" — all under one GoDaddy Airo umbrella, but different tools for different jobs. What does each one cost?
Wix's prices vary by location and can't be quoted reliably. Wix's own pricing page states this directly: "Prices and currency vary by location. USD prices displayed for reference only" (Wix). Check Wix's plans page for your actual rate.
GoDaddy's Airo AI Builder has a free starting point and paid plans that run on monthly AI credits; check GoDaddy's Website Builder page for current plan prices and credit amounts. Two things the page states for every paid plan: a free domain ("Get a free domain with any paid Airo AI Builder plan"), and "Edit text and images without using credits", so credits go to building and changing the site, not basic edits.
What do I get for the AI credits on GoDaddy specifically?
GoDaddy's help documentation is clear that credits power the generation and modification work, not ordinary editing: "We provide free monthly AI credits to use the Airo Builder agent. When you've run out of credits, you'll need to wait for your limit to reset or purchase more" (GoDaddy Help, "Build a custom app or site with Airo AI Builder", checked September 2026). Who is each one not for?
Wix is not a fit if you ever expect to take the design or the code with you. There is no export path for a Wix-built page, full stop — your options when leaving are a CSV of structured content and your own copies of media files, nothing that reconstructs the design elsewhere.
GoDaddy's Airo AI Builder is not a fit if you want to build by hand, element by element, from a blank canvas. It's prompt-first: you describe what you want, then refine it by chat or in its edit mode, where you select part of the app and use a toolbar (GoDaddy Help). If a from-scratch visual editor is what you want, Wix is the closer match. An existing Websites + Marketing site also doesn't move over as-is: GoDaddy's rebuild flow produces "a fresh design rather than an exact copy" (GoDaddy Help).
What happens to my URLs if I switch between them?
Neither platform carries old URLs to the other automatically. If you're moving a live site, plan the migration the same way you would for any two builders: export what content you can, note every existing URL, and set up redirects on whichever platform becomes the new host once DNS points there. Where does Figment fit in?
Neither Wix nor GoDaddy's builder is what Figment replaces — Figment publishes a Figma design as a live website through its Figma plugin, for people whose main need is design control over a marketing site or portfolio, not a store, a CMS, or a chat-prompt app generator. If you need Wix's app marketplace, its CMS, or GoDaddy's full-stack app generation, this comparison is the one that matters — Figment isn't a substitute for either.
Which should I actually pick?
- Pick Wix if you want to build visually from a blank canvas, want Wix's app marketplace and CMS, and you're not planning to ever take the design with you.
- Pick GoDaddy's Airo AI Builder if you'd rather start from a written description than a blank canvas, want the stated option to download your code, and your ecommerce or booking needs fit inside a single paid plan without needing Wix's higher ecommerce tiers.
- Check both vendors' current pricing pages before committing — Wix's numbers vary by your location, and GoDaddy's Airo AI Builder is a recently rebranded product whose plan structure may keep changing.
Bottom line: Wix and GoDaddy's Airo AI Builder solve the same basic problem — a hosted website with ecommerce and SEO tools — through very different building models, and only one of them documents a way to leave with your code. Read both platforms' own current pages before you commit, since GoDaddy's builder in particular has changed shape recently.
