Bias declared up front, we sell a competing product. Adobe Portfolio also has one advantage nothing else on this list can match: if you already pay Adobe, it costs you nothing extra. That's a strong argument and I'm not going to wave it away.

What it actually costs

Adobe Portfolio has no standalone price. It's bundled with eligible paid Creative Cloud plans, which currently run from $11.99/mo for Lightroom up to $69.99/mo for Creative Cloud Pro, with the Photography plan at $19.99/mo in between.

So it's free in the sense that a third cupholder is free with a car. The real condition is that your portfolio exists only while you keep paying Adobe. Stop the subscription and the site stops.

Sites publish on a myportfolio.com address by default. Custom domains are supported, and Adobe's help docs describe a limit on how many of your sites can use one, so check the current documentation if you're planning to run several.

Why designers look for alternatives

Two reasons come up over and over.

The first is the design ceiling. Portfolio is theme-driven. You pick a layout and configure it, and when your idea doesn't fit the theme, there's nowhere to go. For designers whose whole pitch is visual judgment, showing that judgment through somebody else's template is a strange way to do it.

The second is quieter. Adobe hasn't announced any end of life for Portfolio, and I want to be careful here because plenty of blogs say things about this that nobody has confirmed. What is true and public: designers have been asking on Adobe's own community forums for years whether Portfolio is still being actively developed, pointing at basic features that have stayed missing. Make of that what you will. It isn't an announcement, it's a mood.

Stay on Adobe Portfolio if

You're already deep in Creative Cloud, the theme you picked fits your work, and you'd rather spend zero additional dollars. That's a completely reasonable position, especially early on.

Stay if your portfolio is mostly a wall of images and the layout genuinely doesn't matter to you. Portfolio handles that fine and the Lightroom integration is convenient.

And stay if you don't use Figma. Figment is a Figma plugin and without that file there's nothing for us to publish.

What Figment does differently

You design the portfolio yourself, in Figma, with no theme in the way. The plugin publishes your frames as a real website on your own domain in under a minute. Editing later means editing the Figma file and publishing again.

The design is not an approximation of your design. It's your design.

And because the file is the site, there's no second copy to maintain. With template builders you keep a "real" version in your design tool and a compromised version in the builder, and those two drift apart until you give up on one of them.

You own the Figma file outright, so your portfolio is portable to any tool at any time and doesn't evaporate when a subscription lapses. Zero drift between design and live site. Updates are design edits. Publishing takes under a minute. The canvas stays open in a format AI can genuinely operate on. Honest limits: no CMS, no animation engine. Portfolios, studio sites, business sites and landing pages are what this is for.

Moving your portfolio across

There's no export, so rebuild rather than import. Screenshot each page full height, gather your project images at the highest resolution you have, and lay out the frames in Figma. Desktop and mobile per page.

This is the moment to actually redesign rather than trace, since you were probably never fully happy with the theme anyway. Install the Figment plugin, publish, review, then point your domain. Keep Portfolio live until the new site answers.
