It's a legitimately impressive piece of engineering and developers get real work out of it. People go looking for Bolt.new alternatives mostly when they realize they're using an app builder to make a website.

Tokens and the design loop

Everything in Bolt costs tokens. Every message, every retry, and every large file the model has to read or rewrite. Two people on the same plan can burn very different amounts depending on how they work.

Design iteration is the worst possible workload for that model. Getting a hero section right is twelve small adjustments, each one a message, each one pulling files into context. You end up making design decisions based on your remaining balance, which is a genuinely bad way to make design decisions.
