We build a competitor, so weigh this accordingly. Cargo is one of the few web tools with an actual point of view. The template set is curated, the sites look like they were made by people with eyes, and the pricing is refreshingly simple.

Cargo's pricing, which is genuinely good

One price, no tiers: $14/mo billed yearly or $19/mo billed monthly. That covers unlimited public sites on cargo.site subdomains, real time multi-user editing, and one custom domain connection. Extra domains are $2/mo yearly or $3/mo monthly each.

If you want to take payments, Commerce is an add-on at $5.50/mo yearly or $9/mo monthly, and Cargo doesn't take a cut of sales.

You can build privately for free. Making a site public requires a subscription.

I'll say the obvious thing: that's cheaper than us. Figment Pro is $29/mo. If cost is the deciding factor, Cargo wins and you should stop reading here.

So what's the actual argument

Templates. Cargo's are good, but you're starting from one and adjusting it. For a lot of designers that's exactly backwards, because the design already exists. It's sitting in a Figma file, finished, and the job is getting it online, not finding the closest available template and bending it toward what you drew.

And the moment you do that bending, you have two versions of your site: the one in your Figma file and the one in Cargo's editor. They drift. Six months later you can't say which is correct.

Stay on Cargo if

You like working inside a curated system and want the tool to make some decisions for you. Plenty of excellent designers prefer that and it's not a lesser way to work.

Stay if you're selling things, because Cargo has a real commerce product and we don't. Stay if you're running many sites, since unlimited cargo.site sites on one $14 subscription is hard to beat. Stay if you don't use Figma, because our entire premise falls apart without it.

Figment has no CMS and no animation engine either. Those aren't hidden in the footnotes, they're just not what we built.

What Figment does

You design the site in Figma. The plugin publishes your frames as a live website on your domain in under a minute. To change it later, you change the Figma file and publish again.

No template to start from, no editor to learn, no second copy of the design to maintain. The Figma file is the site.

For a photographer, artist or studio who already designs their own layouts, that removes a whole step rather than making it prettier.

What you get that Cargo doesn't offer

You own the Figma file outright, so the design travels with you to any tool, forever. Nothing drifts, because there's one artifact instead of two. Updates are design edits, not editor work. Publishing takes under a minute. The canvas stays open in a form AI can actually operate on. And the product has been live since 2021, with 20,048 published sites.

Our free tier publishes to a subdomain with a "Built with Figment.so" badge, which is enough to try the whole flow. Pro is $29/mo, Team $89/mo, 30-day trial.

Moving a Cargo site over

There's no export path into Figma, so this is a rebuild. Screenshot each page at full height, download your images, and trace the layouts into Figma frames. Make a desktop and a mobile frame per page.

If you designed the site in Figma originally and then rebuilt it in Cargo, dig out that file. You're most of the way there already.

Then install the Figment plugin, publish, check the live URL, and move your domain only once you're happy. Cancel Cargo after the switch, not before.
