Let me be fair about Lovable first, because it gets strawmanned a lot. It generates real React applications with a Supabase-style backend, two-way GitHub sync, and a codebase you can download on the right plan. Free gives you a small daily credit grant, Pro is $25/mo, Business is $50/mo, with annual discounts and a merged credit balance covering building, hosting and AI features. It's a serious tool and people ship real products with it.

So why do people look for Lovable alternatives? Most often because they're using an app builder to make a marketing site.

The mismatch

A marketing site is a design problem. An app is a state and logic problem. Lovable is very good at the second one, and when you point it at the first one you get a React app that renders a landing page, which is a heavy way to hold a brochure.

That shows up in a few concrete ways. Every visual change is a prompt, and every prompt spends credits. Fine-tuning a hero section by conversation burns through a balance fast and is slower than dragging. The output is code, so the design exists only as the code, which means your designer can't touch it without a developer in the loop. And regenerations can quietly alter things you'd already settled.

None of that is a flaw in Lovable. It's the cost of using a code generator as a design tool.

Stay also if you're a developer who prefers owning the code. That's a legitimate preference and Figment doesn't hand you a repo.
