How to Move Off GoDaddy Website Builder (and Keep Your Domain)
GoDaddy Website Builder exists so that buying a domain ends with something online ten minutes later. As a placeholder, it does the job. But it's the most template-bound builder in common use. Sections you can't move, layouts you can't escape, and a design ceiling you hit the first time you think "could this look more like us?"
The good news is this is the easiest migration on our list, and your domain stays right where it is.
What moves and what stays
Your domain registration stays at GoDaddy. Your email too, if you have it there. Nothing about this requires leaving GoDaddy as a registrar.
The website itself moves, from GoDaddy's builder to a design you control.
Collect your content
GoDaddy's Websites + Marketing builder has no export. (GoDaddy's newer Airo AI Builder can download a project as code, but moving an existing site into it is a rebuild too.) Open each page of your live site, paste the text into a doc, and save your images. Use your originals where you have them. Most GoDaddy sites run 3 to 6 pages, so this takes an evening, not a week.
Design the site you actually wanted
Open Figma and either rebuild your current layout from screenshots, or start from a free template that fits your business and drop your content in.
Never used Figma? It's boxes and text on a canvas. If you can arrange slides, you can do this. Make one desktop frame and one mobile frame per page.
Publish, then point the domain
Install the Figment plugin, select your frames, publish, and click through the preview URL.
In GoDaddy's DNS settings, update the record to the value Figment shows you. That single change swaps the old site for the new one, usually within minutes. Then cancel the Website Builder subscription. Keep the domain.
The real upgrade
It isn't only about looks. On GoDaddy's builder, the template owns your site. In Figment, a Figma file you own is your site, so every future change is a design edit away and no platform can strand it. You can point any AI tool at your copy today, and Figment's own AI editor is public now, working on a separate static copy of the published site.
