How to Move a Wix Site to an AI Website Builder

You've watched the demo. Someone types "make me a website for a landscaping business" and thirty seconds later a finished homepage scrolls by. Meanwhile you're still dragging widgets around the Wix editor like it's 2019.

So should you move? Probably, but not for the reason the demo suggests.

What AI builders are genuinely good at

The blank page problem is dead. Describing your business and getting a structured draft in seconds is real, and it's the single best thing AI brought to website building.

Copywriting too. AI writes serviceable headlines and service descriptions faster than most business owners ever will, and it takes revision requests without sulking.

Where the demo lies to you

The demo never shows the last 10 percent. When the AI's version is almost right and you need to fix one stubborn section, most AI builders make you fight the tool. That fight is the exact frustration that made you want to leave Wix.

There's a sameness problem as well. Most AI builders assemble sites from the same section library, so you escape the Wix-template look and land in the AI-template look.

And the design usually isn't yours in any meaningful sense. It lives inside the tool, on the tool's terms, the same trap with a smarter salesperson.

1. Copy each page's text into a doc. Download your images.
2. Screenshot every page. Whatever you rebuild in, this is your reference.
3. Rebuild in Figma. Trace your old layout from the screenshots, or start from a community template and paste your content in. Ask ChatGPT or Claude to tighten your copy while you're at it. "Make this paragraph half as long" works wonders on old Wix sites.
4. Publish with the Figment plugin. You'll get a live URL to review before anything public changes.
5. Point your domain's DNS at the new site. A Wix-registered domain can stay registered at Wix; only the record changes.
6. Cancel Wix once the new site answers on your domain.
