Webflow AI is a set of separate tools bundled under one name, not a single assistant. Webflow's help center defines it broadly: "Webflow AI is the collective name for Webflow's AI-powered features. It brings together tools that help you design and build production-grade websites and web apps — no design or technical experience required" (Webflow Help Center, "Webflow AI overview", checked September 2026). Some of those tools are free to use on any plan; others need a paid plan, and a subset draws down a shared, metered "AI credit" balance. This guide covers what each feature actually does, which plans unlock it, and which ones consume credits.
The AI site builder generates an entire multi-page site from a written description: "Just describe your site, including its purpose, pages (e.g., Home, About, Services, Blog, Contact), and the audience you're building for, and the AI site builder generates a complete site structure, content, and a theme you can adjust to your liking" (Webflow Help Center, "Build a site with Webflow's AI site builder", checked September 2026). It's the one major AI feature that doesn't draw on your AI credit balance: "This feature does not consume Webflow AI credits" (same source).
It has a real starting-point limit, though: "Without a paid Workspace or Site plan, your site's limited to two pages total. With either type of plan, the AI site builder generates up to five pages initially, and you can add more once your site's generated" (same source). And it's a new-site tool specifically — it "can only be used when creating a brand-new site or editing an existing AI-generated site — it can't be applied to an existing site that wasn't originally built with the AI site builder" (same source). If your site already exists and wasn't built this way, this feature isn't the route in; see Can ChatGPT or Claude Edit Your Webflow Site? for what can actually reach an existing project.
The AI Assistant is the conversational layer that works inside an existing project. Webflow describes it as something that "can help you learn Webflow as you work and perform actions like designing and generating new sections," and notes that "with the Webflow AI Assistant, you can even generate and deploy full-stack web apps using nothing but simple natural language prompts" (Webflow AI overview, same source). In practice this covers a few distinct jobs: answering contextual how-to questions without leaving the canvas, generating and refining page sections and copy, and — more recently — building AI code components, described as letting you "build advanced, interactive functionality — like pricing calculators, multi-step forms, and image galleries — directly inside Webflow" from a prompt, producing "a React code component you can customize, add props to, and reuse across your site" (same source).
One capability is on its way out. Webflow's own overview states plainly: "Webflow has paused further development of App Gen and will begin the process of deprecating it. Existing apps continue to run on Webflow Cloud, and App Gen remains free to use during this period. If you're looking to build interactive experiences in Webflow, explore AI code components as an alternative" (same source). If you were evaluating Webflow specifically for full-stack app generation, treat that path as being phased out in favor of AI code components.
Yes, for Collection items specifically. Webflow's overview states: "You can use Webflow AI to generate sample CMS Collection items — either individually from the canvas or in bulk from within an empty Collection. This helps you populate your Collections with contextually relevant content so you can start designing right away" (Webflow Help Center, "Webflow AI overview", checked September 2026). This one is plan-gated at the CMS level, not just the Workspace level: "Generating Collection items with Webflow AI requires a Site plan that includes CMS access. It isn't available on Basic Site plans, as they don't include a CMS" (same source). For how CMS plan gates work generally, see Webflow CMS.
Webflow splits this into two tiers. The first is the Audit panel, available per-page or sitewide: "Webflow's Audit panel helps you review your site for missing elements that improve SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) — including image alt text, page titles, meta descriptions, and schema markup — along with accessibility issues. Then, you can use Webflow AI to generate contextually relevant content for those elements" (Webflow Help Center, "Audit and improve SEO & AEO with Webflow AI", checked September 2026). Access is role- and plan-gated: "Users with any role except Reviewer can use AI-powered accessibility, SEO, and AEO features if the site has a paid Site plan or is part of a paid Workspace" (same source).
The second tier, Webflow AEO, is a separate and more limited-access product for ongoing monitoring rather than one-off fixes: "Available on Team or Enterprise Platform plans, Webflow AEO measures and improves AI search visibility at scale. AEO analytics tracks how AI tools represent your brand, which LLM bots visit your site, and how AI-referred visitors engage with your content. AEO agents automatically scan your site on a recurring schedule, surfacing prioritized recommendations in a centralized dashboard for you to review and apply" (Webflow AI overview, same source). A Team or Enterprise Workspace also gets scheduled AEO agent scans layered on top of the manual Audit panel, per the same overview page.
Not every AI feature costs a credit, and Webflow documents this split explicitly. Its dedicated credits page states the purpose plainly: "Webflow AI credits give every Workspace sustainable access to certain Webflow AI features. Your plan includes a set number of credits at no extra cost, and they're shared across your entire team" (Webflow Help Center, "Webflow AI credits", checked September 2026). Credits are pooled per Workspace, not per site, and "unused credits expire at the end of each period and don't roll over" (same source).
| Consumes AI credits | Does not consume AI credits |
|---|---|
| Improve SEO & AEO | Get contextual help |
| Generate copy | Build a site |
| Generate CMS Collection items | Design sections |
| Generate code components | Generate apps |
| Webflow AEO agents | Webflow Optimize, Webflow Localize |
(Table structure per Webflow's own two-column breakdown on the credits page, same source.) Included monthly or yearly credit allotments, by Workspace plan (same source):
| Workspace plan | AI credits included |
|---|---|
| Starter | 200 per month |
| Core / Freelancer | 300 per month |
| Growth / Agency | 400 per month |
| Team | 100,000 per year |
| Scale, Enterprise, Enterprise+ | Custom amount, set by Webflow |
If a Workspace runs out, self-serve plans can buy an add-on: "Each AI credit add-on includes 2,000 additional credits, and credits reset monthly. You can add up to 15 AI credit add-ons per Workspace," priced at "$25/mo" on monthly billing or "$20/mo" on annual billing for 2,000 credits (same source). Running dry mid-task isn't a hard stop, either: "If you start an AI request while your Workspace still has a positive credit balance, Webflow lets the request finish even if it uses more credits than you have remaining," and "running out of credits doesn't trigger an automatic plan upgrade or unexpected charges" (same source) — the next credit refresh simply settles any negative balance first.
For what each Site and Workspace plan costs and includes beyond AI features, see Webflow pricing explained.
Nowhere here directly — Figment doesn't have a CMS, an SEO audit tool, or an in-editor AI assistant to compare against Webflow's. Figment publishes a site from a Figma design through its Figma plugin; its own AI editor is public now, working on a separate static copy of the published site, not an in-place CMS content feature like the tools above. If your actual need is Webflow's CMS-backed content generation or scheduled AEO monitoring, Webflow's own AI tools are the right thing to be evaluating.
Bottom line: "Webflow AI" spans a free site builder, a conversational Assistant, CMS content generation, and two tiers of SEO/AEO tooling — each gated by a different combination of plan and Workspace type, and only some of them metered by the shared AI-credit pool. Check the specific feature against the tables above before assuming a lower plan includes it.
