Wix Harmony vs Wix Editor vs Wix Studio: Which One Am I On, and Can I Switch?

Check your site's dashboard Home tab: it names the editor your site uses (Wix Editor, Wix Harmony Editor, or Wix Studio Editor), and no, you generally cannot move an existing site into a different one — you rebuild it there instead. Wix has shipped three separate editors, each with its own AI tools, its own interface, and its own migration rules. Confusing one for another is the easiest way to plan a project around a feature your actual site doesn't have.

What is each editor, per Wix's own help pages?

Wix Editor is the original, classic builder. It puts "a panel with large icons on the left side of the screen" for main actions like Add Elements and Site Design, with a toolbar that appears when you select something on the page (Wix, "Wix Harmony Editor: The Difference between Wix Editor and Wix Harmony", checked September 2026). Its AI tools sit behind an icon in that panel — useful, but not a running conversation with an assistant.

Wix Harmony, introduced in January 2026, replaces that left-icon layout with "a clean, minimalistic working environment" where the main actions (Add, Brand, Pages) sit at the top of the screen (same source). Its headline feature is Aria, described in Wix's own guide as "your skilled AI partner, ready to help at any point" — you click "Ask Aria" and chat with it throughout the build, something the classic Editor's icon-based AI tools don't offer (same source). Per Wix's Harmony guide, Aria can generate site pages, layouts, and colors with starter content and images, and make design changes like "generating new sections, adjusting site colors, updating the tone of voice" (Wix, "Wix Harmony Editor: Creating a Site with AI", checked September 2026). The same guide is direct about the risk: "Aria is powered by AI and as such may produce unexpected or inaccurate results," and tells you to "Always review Aria's suggestions or changes before finalizing your site" (same source).

Wix Studio is a different product aimed at a different user. Wix describes it as "the ultimate platform tailored for professionals to effortlessly create sites for clients," built around real-time collaboration and client handover rather than a solo build (Wix, "Wix Studio: About the Studio Editor", checked September 2026). Its AI set is narrower and more utilitarian than Aria's open chat: "Make your pages or sections responsive with the click of a button," an AI Text Creator that "brings OpenAI's ChatGPT directly into the Editor," and an AI image tool where you "describe the image you want and get multiple suggestions to use on the site" (same source).

There's also a separate AI Website Builder, reachable from account setup, that generates a brand-new site from a conversational brief. Wix's own FAQ rules out the use case people most often assume: "It is not possible to use the AI Website Builder to edit existing sites, you can only use it to create new sites" (Wix, "Wix Editor: Creating an AI-Generated Site", checked September 2026). It's a starting point, not an editing tool for a site you already have.

How do I tell which editor my site is on?

Open your site's dashboard and go to the Home tab. Wix documents this directly: "In the Home tab of the dashboard you can see an overview of the site's key information such as the site's plan, domain, business email, as well as the website builder you're using (e.g. Wix Harmony Editor, Wix Studio Editor)" (Wix, "About Your Wix Dashboard", checked September 2026). If you'd rather look at the editor itself: a left-side panel of large icons means the classic Wix Editor, and a top bar with Add / Brand / Pages plus an "Ask Aria" prompt means Harmony.

Can I move my site from one editor to another?

No, not in place. Wix documents the two moves people ask about most, and both come back to the same answer: rebuild, don't migrate.

• Wix Editor → Harmony. Wix states it plainly: "Currently, it is not possible to migrate an existing site from Wix Editor to the Wix Harmony Editor" (Wix Harmony difference article, cited above). If you want Aria's chat-based editing on an existing site, you build a new Harmony site and move your content and design into it by hand.
• Wix Editor → Studio. Also blocked: "No, it is not possible to edit a site created in the Wix Editor in the Studio Editor" (Wix, "Wix Studio: Switching to Wix Studio", checked September 2026). If you want it in Studio, the documented path is to "rebuild it from scratch" (same source). One partial convenience: your uploaded media is reachable in the Studio Editor's Media Manager by adding it to a board, so at least you're not re-uploading every image (same source).
• Out of Harmony. Wix's help pages don't document moving a Harmony site to the classic Editor or to Studio, so don't plan on it. Wix's Harmony AI guide does note one related limit: "If you created a site with AI, you cannot change it to a different template" (Wix, "Wix Harmony Editor: Creating a Site with AI").
• Switching your account to Wix Studio does not touch your existing sites. When you switch your account to Wix Studio, "all your existing sites move to the new workspace where you can view, manage, and edit them as usual"; Wix Editor sites "won't be updated to the Studio Editor," and you can still create new sites in the Wix Editor (same "Switching to Wix Studio" source). The account-level switch adds an option; it doesn't force a migration.

What does this mean in practice? A feature and limits matrix

Example (hypothetical): A freelance designer logs into an old client site's dashboard, checks the Home tab, and sees "Wix Editor." She wants to offer the client Aria's chat-based section generator for an upcoming redesign. Because Wix documents no in-place migration from Editor to Harmony, her real options are: keep the client on the classic Editor and use its icon-based AI tools, or scope a full rebuild in Harmony and treat it as a new site project with its own timeline — not a quick upgrade. This is illustrative only, not a test we ran.

What's the real limitation here, and what's the recovery path?

The limitation is structural, not a bug: Wix has not built a converter between these three editors, so "switching editors" is really "starting a new site." If you commit to a rebuild, keep the old site live and published until the new one is fully checked — desktop and mobile, forms, links, and page titles — so there's no gap where neither site is right. Where does this leave AI editing decisions?

Bottom line: Wix Editor, Harmony, and Studio are three separate products sharing a brand name. Your dashboard's Home tab tells you which one you're actually on. None of the three converts into another — every switch is a rebuild, so decide based on what you need next, not on the assumption that an upgrade is a button click away.
