Butternut AI Alternatives: Fast Is Only Half the Job

Butternut AI does the thing on the tin. You describe a business, it builds a multi-page site with copy and images, and it hands you hosting, SSL and a free custom domain for the first year. Starter is $20/mo and Pro is $69/mo, with 25 percent off if you pay yearly, and there's a free tier for building and editing.
For a small business that needs to exist online this week, that's a fair deal. People search for Butternut AI alternatives for reasons that show up later.
Butternut meters AI work. Starter includes a monthly allowance of AI credits, Pro includes more. Every time you ask the agent to change something, that's a withdrawal. Early on you barely notice. Once you're iterating on a headline or fighting with a section's spacing, you start thinking about the meter, and thinking about the meter is a bad way to design.
The deeper thing is that the agent is your main editing tool. When the output is 90 percent right, you need the remaining 10 percent, and the remaining 10 percent is usually a layout detail that's much easier to drag than to describe. Chat is a good drafting interface and a clumsy adjustment interface.
A Butternut site lives in Butternut. There's no meaningful way to carry the design itself somewhere else. Your content and your domain are portable. The design is not.
Figment inverts that. You design your site in Figma, which is free and which you keep regardless of what happens to us or to your subscription. Our plugin publishes those frames as a live site in under a minute, on your domain.
Editing costs nothing but your time. Move a section, change a color, republish. No credits, no allowance, no rephrasing your request for the third time.
It's in early access. Not generally available, not self-serve, you request a demo to see it. Butternut ships an AI agent today and we don't ship ours yet. That's the accurate comparison and I'd rather you hear it from me.
What I'll defend is the foundation we're building it on. AI output is only as good as the canvas it's editing. When that canvas is a design file you own, an AI mistake costs you one drag. When it's a closed template system, an AI mistake is just the site you got.
Figment is $29/mo Pro ($288/yr) or $89/mo Team ($864/yr), 30-day free trial, free tier on a subdomain with a small badge.
You want the site to require nothing from you. Butternut's whole value is that you describe a business and walk away with a working site plus hosting, SEO basics and a domain, for $20 a month. If you have no interest in design and no intention of iterating, that's a good buy and we'd be a worse fit.
The Pro plan's chatbot and WhatsApp integration are also genuinely useful for a lot of small service businesses. We don't do any of that.
