Shopify sells four public plans - Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus - and what actually changes between them is card-processing rates, staff accounts, and a shrinking third-party transaction fee, not which design tools you get. Every plan includes the same checkout, the same unlimited products, and the same built-in AI assistant. Here's what each plan costs and unlocks, sourced directly from Shopify's own pricing page, checked September 2026.
Shopify's pricing page defaults to its "Pay yearly" toggle, which shows a lower effective monthly rate billed for the year upfront. These are the numbers shown under that default view, with the monthly-billing alternative alongside them:
| Plan | Pay yearly (per month) | Pay monthly | Positioned for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $29/mo | $39 USD/mo | "For solo entrepreneurs" |
| Grow | $79/mo | $105 USD/mo | "For small teams" |
| Advanced | $299/mo | $399 USD/mo | "For global reach" |
| Plus | from $2,300/mo | - | "For complex businesses" |
Shopify's pricing page also runs a separate signup offer independent of these plan prices: at the time of this check it read "Try 3 days free, then $1/month for 3 months." That's a promotional entry price, not a change to the Basic/Grow/Advanced numbers above, and Shopify can change it at any time - check the live page for the current offer before you sign up. Plus doesn't carry the yearly-vs-monthly toggle the other three do; Shopify instead offers a "Try for $399" entry price on top of its "from $2,300/mo" custom quote.
The plans are cumulative - each one includes everything below it, per Shopify's pricing page:
Every plan also includes Shopify's "200+ real-time reports, plus custom analytics" per the comparison table, unlimited web hosting, a custom domain name, and a free SSL certificate. If you're weighing Shopify specifically against a general-purpose builder for SEO control, our Shopify SEO guide covers what each plan's tools do and don't reach.
This is where the four plans separate in real cost, and Shopify states three different numbers for each: an online rate, an in-person rate, and a separate fee charged only if you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments. From Shopify's pricing comparison table:
| Plan | Online standard card rate | In-person card rate | Third-party transaction fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 2.9% + 30¢ | 2.6% + 10¢ | 2% |
| Grow | 2.7% + 30¢ | 2.5% + 10¢ | 1% |
| Advanced | 2.5% + 30¢ | 2.4% + 10¢ | 0.6% |
| Plus | 2.25% + 30¢ | 2.3% + 10¢ | 0.2% |
The "third-party transaction fee" only applies if you route payments through a provider other than Shopify Payments - it's on top of whatever that provider itself charges, and it drops sharply as you move up plans. Shopify also lists several other payment methods with their own rates on the same comparison table: online premium card rates run higher than the standard rate on every plan (for example, 3.5% + 30¢ on Basic versus 2.95% + 30¢ on Plus), online international cards add a flat "+1%" on top of the standard rate on every plan, and PayPal Wallet is billed separately, "starting at 3.49% + 49¢," regardless of plan. Manually entered or keyed-in card payments also carry their own higher rate (3.5% + 10¢ in-person on every plan) because of the added fraud risk when the card isn't physically present.
If you're deciding between Shopify and a more general-purpose site builder rather than between Shopify's own tiers, our Shopify vs Squarespace and Shopify vs Wix comparisons cover ownership, ecommerce depth, and where each platform is and isn't a fit.
Nowhere directly for this decision - Figment isn't a Shopify alternative in the plan-and-fee sense above. Figment publishes a website from a Figma design you've already built, through its Figma plugin; it has no store, no product catalog, and no card-processing schedule of its own. If what you need is a store with the payment routing, staff permissions, and fee structure above, Shopify's own plans are the right comparison to work from.
Bottom line: Basic, Grow, and Advanced buy you progressively lower card and third-party fees plus more staff accounts, not a different core product - Plus is a separate, custom-quoted tier for high-volume or B2B-heavy stores. Check Shopify's own pricing page for the current numbers and signup offer before you commit, since both the promotional entry price and the plan fees are the kind of detail Shopify updates.
