Search "website template" in the Figma Community and you get a wall of covers. Most of them are a single hero section with a gradient behind it. Maybe a hundred of them are real, multi-section files with named layers and auto layout, and those are the ones worth your time.

I went digging and opened a lot of files. Below are the ones I'd actually start a project from, sorted by what you're building rather than by how pretty the cover art is. Every one is free to open from the Community. Every one is published under CC BY 4.0, which Figma lists at the bottom of the file page, so credit the designer if you ship something close to the original.

If you're building a business or agency site

Digital Agency Company Website UI Design Template in Dark Theme by Praha, published as SquareUp under the Produce UI name. This is the heavyweight of the group, with around 35,000 users and 1.1k likes on the Community listing. Three screen sizes, built with auto layout, frames named properly instead of "Frame 247". The dark theme is the whole personality of it, so if you want a light corporate site you'll be doing real work to repaint it.

Free Agency Template by Ali. Light and dark versions in one file, built on auto layout with Figma Variables driving the colors. That variables setup is the reason I'd pick this one: swapping a brand palette is a few edits instead of a click-everything-and-hope tour of the canvas. It's also one of the more recently updated files on this list.

Agency Website Template (Demo) by Jacek Wolszczak. Around 1,100 users. Responsive frames and dedicated services sections, aimed at small agencies and freelancers who need to explain what they sell above the fold.

Business website Template by Dhruv Chauhan. Five fully editable pages, written for a financial services business but generic enough to repurpose. It's a smaller file with fewer users than the others here, which mostly means fewer people have stress-tested it. The page structure is sane.

Free Template for Agency Website by Iconstica, about 9,500 users. The site design is fine, but the reason to grab it is that it ships alongside the Iconstica icon library, which the listing puts at over 2,800 icons across six styles. Worth it for the icons alone.

If you're building a portfolio

I wrote a longer piece on Figma portfolio templates with photographer-specific picks, but these two are the ones I'd point almost anyone at.

Personal Portfolio Website Template by Andressa Belém. This is the most-used file on this entire page by a wide margin, sitting around 56,000 users and 1.3k likes. She built it as the worked example for a Figma crash course, which is exactly why it's good to learn from: the layer structure is teaching-quality, not portfolio-flex quality.

Designer Portfolio Website Template by Salman, around 8,700 users. Two different portfolio designs in one file, so you can pick a direction instead of committing to the first thing you see.

If you're building a landing page

Full list in the Figma landing page templates post, but here's the one I'd reach for first.

Whitepace by Al Razi Siam. About 122,000 users and 1.9k likes, which makes it one of the most downloaded free web files in the Community full stop. The listing says 100% free for personal and commercial use. What sets it apart: it ships responsive versions for every device plus an animated prototype that demonstrates the breakpoints. Most free templates hand you a desktop frame and wish you luck.

Trendy minimalist landing page template by Julls. Auto layout, color and text styles, real components. Built from open source elements, so there's nothing weird buried in the license.

If you're building a personal site

Personal Website Template by Sriram Venugopal. Bold color palette, a grotesque typeface, and about 1,500 users. It's five years old and it's held up better than most things published last year.

Aesthetic Personal website Template by Samarjit Mahi. He open-sourced it specifically so people new to design could use it as a starting point, and asks only that you don't resell it. That's a generous license and a clean file.

Free Website Template by Shah. Around 14,000 users. The description is one line and the file is exactly what it says: ready-to-use elements you can assemble into something. Less a finished site, more a parts bin.

What to check before you commit to a template

Open the file and look at the layers panel before you look at the design. If the layers are named and the sections sit inside auto layout frames, you can edit it. If it's 400 loose rectangles at absolute positions, you'll spend longer fixing it than designing from scratch.

Second thing: check whether there's a mobile frame. A lot of Community files are desktop-only, and a desktop-only file is half a website. If you're not sure how to add the other half, I wrote about what actually carries over when a Figma design becomes responsive.

Third: the Community listing shows a "users" count. High numbers mean people have opened the file and kept it, which is the only crowd signal available here.

Getting from the template to a live site

A template gets you a design. It doesn't get you a website, and that gap is where most people stall for a month.

Figment is a Figma plugin that publishes your frames as a live site. Pick one of the files above, make it yours, run the plugin, and you're online. Free tier puts it on a subdomain with a small "Built with Figment.so" badge.
