Most "alternatives" posts are about preference. This one has a deadline attached, at least for some of you.

Square has announced it's winding down Weebly services across 67 countries. Per Weebly's own support notice and the coverage around it, affected customers lost the ability to publish new pages back in June, sites in those countries are scheduled to be unpublished on September 27, 2026, and account access continues until late December 2026 so people can get their data out. Check Weebly's notice for whether your country is on the list, because the dates and the country list are the part that actually matters to you.

If you're not in one of those 67 countries, you're not on a clock. You are still on a product that's been in maintenance mode since Square bought it, with no meaningful feature work and Square steering new users to Square Online instead.

First thing, before you compare anything

Download your data. In Weebly, Account Settings has a My Data section with a Download My Data option, and there's an archive of your site's HTML under Settings. Neither gives you something you can edit usefully, but both are complete snapshots of what you wrote. Storage is free. Keep them forever.

Also note where your domain is registered, and don't let it lapse while you're figuring this out.

Where Weebly owners go

Square Online. The path Square wants you on. Sensible if you already take payments through Square, since it plugs into the same system. Less sensible if your site has nothing to do with commerce.

Squarespace or Wix. Both are a big visual upgrade over anything Weebly let you build. Both are also closed platforms. Wix says outright that sites can't be exported to another host, and Squarespace's export drops your styles, custom CSS and most page types.

WordPress. Portable and powerful. Also a maintenance job. Fine if you want that.

Figment. Your site becomes a Figma file you own, and we publish it. Below.

What Figment gives you that Weebly doesn't

The design file is yours. That is the entire lesson of this situation. A proprietary editor owns your design until the company loses interest, and then you find out on a support page. A Figma file can't be unpublished by anyone's business decision.

No template ceiling, no theme marketplace. You draw the pages you want on a canvas. Weebly hasn't shipped a new theme in years, so this is a large jump.

Edits are design edits. Change the frame, publish, live in under a minute.

And because the canvas is open, AI can actually do work on it rather than filling slots in someone else's layout. Our AI website builder is in early access and not generally available yet. We're building it on the same Figma foundation, so this is the last migration rather than a stop on the way to one.

We've been live since 2021 with just over 20,000 published sites. Small compared to Weebly's old scale, and I'd rather say that than dress it up.

Stay where you are if

Your country isn't affected, your site is a simple brochure, and it still does its job. There's no urgency and there's no prize for moving early.

You run your business on Square. In that case Square Online is the better answer than anything I'm selling, because the integration is the point.

You don't want to open a design tool. Figma is free and learnable, but you should want to learn it.

The move itself

Save your copy and images, rebuild the layout in Figma from screenshots or a free template, publish with the plugin, then point one DNS record at the new site. A Weebly-registered domain can stay registered there, or transfer it if you'd rather.
