Weebly Alternatives, and Why the Clock Is Actually Running

Short version: Square Online, Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, or Figment, depending on whether you take payments through Square, want a closed but polished editor, want full control, or want to own your design as a portable file. Most "alternatives" posts are about preference. This one has a deadline attached, at least for some of you.

Do I actually need to move right now?

Only if your site is in one of the 67 countries Square is winding Weebly down in. Per Weebly's own support notice, affected accounts lost the ability to publish new pages on June 29, 2026, sites in those countries were unpublished on September 27, 2026, and account access continues through December 26, 2026 so people can get their data out. Check Weebly's notice for whether your country is on the list — the dates and the list are the part that actually matters to you, and it's the one page Weebly keeps current if either changes.

If you're not in one of those 67 countries, you're not on a clock. You're still on a product that's been in maintenance mode since Square bought it, with no meaningful feature work and Square steering new users toward Square Online instead.

What should I export before I compare anything?

Your data, first, regardless of where you're headed. In Weebly, Account Settings → My Data → Download My Data covers the account, and there's a separate site archive under Settings → General → Archive. Neither gives you something you can edit usefully, and per Weebly's own Back Up Your Site page, the archive skips blog and store pages entirely. Storage is free, so keep everything. Where are Weebly owners actually going?

Square Online. The path Square wants you on. Sensible if you already take payments through Square, since it plugs into the same system. Less sensible if your site has nothing to do with commerce.

Squarespace or Wix. Both are a big visual upgrade over anything Weebly let you build. Both are also closed platforms. Wix says outright that sites can't be exported to another host, and Squarespace's export drops your styles, custom CSS and most page types.

WordPress. Portable and powerful. Also a maintenance job. Fine if you want that.

Figment. Your site becomes a Figma file you own, and we publish it. Below.

What does Figment give me that Weebly doesn't?

The design file is yours. That is the entire lesson of this situation. A proprietary editor owns your design until the company loses interest, and then you find out on a support page. A Figma file can't be unpublished by anyone's business decision.

No template ceiling, no theme marketplace. You draw the pages you want on a canvas. Weebly hasn't shipped a new theme in years, so this is a large jump.

Should I just stay on Weebly?

Yes, if your country isn't affected, your site is a simple brochure, and it still does its job. There's no urgency and no prize for moving early.

Yes, if you run your business on Square. Square Online is the better answer than anything I'm selling, because the integration is the point.

Probably not, if you don't want to open a design tool at all — Figma is free and learnable, but you should want to learn it. WordPress or a closed builder is a better fit there.

What does the actual move look like?

Short version: save your copy and images, rebuild the layout in Figma from screenshots or a free template, publish with the plugin, then point one DNS record at the new site. A Weebly-registered domain can stay registered there, or you can transfer it if you'd rather.
